Chris West Blog – Almost Ready!
September 13, 2010

Hello friends!
The first album of my three CD compilation, The Trilogy, is almost ready! It is currently being duplicated and should be finished very soon. I’m hoping to have a CD release party in late October or early November, so keep an eye open for more details.
I’ve also been working on improving my home studio and I am currently recording material for a new album to be released after The Trilogy. This one will be a little more on the electronic side, lots of programming. I’m very excited about the new material. We will have some tracks available on the website soon.
The past several weeks have been very busy for me with some exciting shows. My good friend Oscar Utterstrom and I, and our group Halfbrass were featured artists/DJs on the Mando Blues radio show on Radio Free Nashville. Check them out at radiofreenashville.org. We also opened for Buckwheat Zydeco at the Franklin Jazz Fest last weekend, and had the honor of meeting Buckwheat himself.
I had the pleasure of playing with Bobby Keys (sax player for the Rolling Stones) at the Cannery Ballroom for a very fun show playing the entire Exile On Main St. album. It was a great show with a very good turn out. They’re hoping to do it again in February, so keep an eye out for it.
I am playing in new band called Silent Brew that’s based off of Miles Davis’ band he used on the albums In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew (2 drummers, 2 keyboards, guitar, bass, sax/bass clarinet, and trumpet). We had our debut performance at the Exit Inn last week and it was an INCREDIBLE show!!! I am really looking forward to more gigs with this ensemble.
I also got to meet and play for Barbara Mandrell with Mike Farris at a benefit put on by the Mandrell’s. She was very complimentary and I even got my picture taken with her. I also appeared with Mike at the AMA at the Ryman. It was a slammin’ show.
Please check the Calendar, I have a lot of exciting shows coming up. Also, be sure to sign up for my Newsletter.
Hope to see you soon,
Chris
Valerie Borman Review from PAMusicScene.com
September 7, 2010
Valerie Borman’s CD, Better Days, reviewed by Mike McKenna for PAMusicScene.com, August 20, 2010.
WOW! This CD is a powerhouse of music, talent and feeling all wrapped up in one neat little package. Valerie Borman has what it takes to keep up with the likes of a Lee Ann Womack, Faith Hill or Mary Chapin-Carpenter. Her style of music is refreshing, energetic and heartfelt and she has the pipes to prove it. It’s been a long time since I listened to a collection of tunes that are very well produced and performed like these are.
“Not Gonna Give You Up” is a rockin’ country tune with a bit of Reba McIntyre’s flavor to it. This should be the first single and would track well in multi-formats. The title track “Better Days” has very inspiring vocals and some nice guitar work. “Inside Out” is another candidate for single release as a mass appeal song. This moving ballad would make Bryan Adams proud. “Just Say I Love You” sounds like it should be performed on the stage in the Grand Ole Opry or on the Texas Connection TV Show.
“I’m With You” is another rockin’ tune that has that Wynonna Judd/ Lorrie Morgan feel to it. A nice hook makes this a good catchy party tune and my 3rd pick for single release. “Same Girl” is a mid-tempo jamming number that gets you toe-tapping. Strong vocals, great rhythms and kick- ass guitar work make this a must listen! “Leave The Lights On” is a ballad with a Lee Ann Womack style to it.
“Stay Out” is another single candidate that catches your imagination from intro to the end. Valerie’s vocals on this tune are reminiscent of early Ann Wilson. “Why Did You Have To Love Me Like That” is a real tear-jerker in the mold of a Faith Hill that could be another powerhouse hit. “Wish” is another ballad that takes you back to the simpler times when music was heartfelt. ”Everyone Need An Angel” is one of those rare songs that I could see a charity like Dreams Come True using as their theme in a promotion. It stands out and sends a clear message to the listener. In conclusion, “Better Days” gets, not one, BUT 2 THUMBS UP!
She is from New Tripoli Pa and is living in Nashville, TN…She will be in the Lehigh Valley in 2 weeks and will be performing at the Silver Creek Athletic Assoc benefit on Sept 5 and at the Pioneer Fest on October 2. (New dates in Atlantic City are in the works.) Her schedule is available on website: www.ValerieBorman.com.
Jeff Arrandale Blog – Blessed and Amazed
September 2, 2010

Hello again and thanks for checking in on what’s going on. God continues to bless and amaze. Let me tell you about it.
This summer, a young couple in our church volunteered each Sunday to teach children the meaning of worship. The 3-month session was called All In Worship and not only did they teach the children songs, they taught them the meaning of the songs and the passages in the Bible from where they came. The kids learned to focus on God as they worshiped, to clap along as they sang, and to close their eyes and lift holy hands toward God as well.
I was blessed to be asked to join them in teaching songs and we had a lot of fun together. One thing I taught was that if we, God’s children, don’t worship Him and the one whom He sent, the rocks and hills will. Christ said in Luke 19 when the Pharisees told Him to rebuke His disciples for blessing the king who comes in the name of the Lord, “I tell you…if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
At the end of the session, we gave each child a CD with some of my music so they could play and sing with them when riding in the car with Mom and Dad. I got to know the kids a little and they got to know me. Now we high five in the hall for God!
I had lots of fun at Spirit Midwest last month performing on the first evening with Certainty and it turned out to be a nice night with plenty of music, fellowship with fans and other musicians, good food, and mega amounts of mosquitoes. Ouch! I’m still scratching.
There was a performance at the Granger Praise Fest in Granger, IA , and early in September I played in support of Meals from the Heartland, as thousands of volunteers packaged meals for delivery to starving people around the world.
Plans continue to for the upcoming trip to and performance in the “closed county” I told you about in the last blog. I’m waiting to tell you the name of the place in order to avoid “tipping my hand” to authorities there. Spiritual roadblocks are starting to pop up in a big way, but that just means the evil one is working to thwart what God wants to do in that unreached country.
The spiritual warfare that goes on there reminds me of Frank Peretti’s books This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. Ephesians 6:12 says that our “struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the authorities of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Battles are fought every day against these forces for the souls of those who don’t know Christ. The only way to overcome them is by putting on the full armor of God and through the power of prayer.
The country where I am going is a dark place spiritually, one where the name of Jesus is rarely uttered and where very few experience the joy of knowing Him. This darkness hates The Light that is Jesus Christ. As I prepare to go, please pray for the spiritual and physical protection of the team that will perform with me and that God would use us to shine His Light there. Can’t wait to see what God’s going to do there through the performances.
Until next time, praise God!
Jeff
