About gschmitt
Combining musical and cultural influence with memorable melodies and lyrics into popular, contemporary music can take a lifetime. Singer / songwriter / guitarist gschmitt has accomplished this and more on his debut release, The Year in Pictures.
Originally from the New York / New Jersey area, gschmitt grew up in a music loving home. He spent countless hours with the records of his early influences such as Pink Floyd, The Police, Jimi Hendrix, James Taylor, Bob Marley, and Otis Redding, among others.
At fourteen, he began to teach himself the guitar and fell deeply in love with writing songs long before he even knew the names of any of the chords. Never one to sit still, he quickly acquired a taste for jazz. At sixteen, he tracked down some of the better-known jazz guitar instructors in the New York City area and studied under them. During a dedicated five year stint at a Northern New Jersey music school, he had amassed a diverse catalog of songs of various genres including rock, hip hop, samba, jazz, and R&B. He also performed as lead guitarist in several New York City bands at such popular clubs as The Lion’s Den, The Wetlands, The Bitter End, Brownie’s and CBGB as well as maintaining regular studio dates.
Now living in Puerto Rico, gschmitt has added Caribbean flavors to his musical palette, and has cultivated an eclectic mix of musical styles with the underlying theme of simple melodies and strong groove.
gschmitt’s debut CD, The Year in Pictures, takes you on a journey through all the styles and elements that make gschmitt who he is… a unique and eclectically influenced music artist.
