About Valerie Borman
Commercial country and pop singer/songwriter, Valerie Borman, has combined twenty years of singing experience into two remarkable commercial albums worth of material. Curb Record’s Robert Herndon stated he felt that Valerie’s voice would be the one to determine “how good the next crop of female vocalists have to measure up to.”
Valerie’s latest release, Better Days, is a far cry from the typical traditional country album. Produced by world-renowned drummer and producer, Harry Stinson, the album contains country songs that showcase Valerie’s wide vocal range and signature pop approach.
Valerie has always known her musical destiny. At the age of three, she revealed to Santa that she wanted a tambourine for Christmas because she was “going to be in a band.” However, growing up on a farm in New Tripoli, PA where her non-musical family raised animals and crops, Valerie’s musical aspirations were not a priority. It wasn’t until Valerie was a sophomore at Penn State that her dream really began to materialize. Playing tenor banjo in State College’s 5-member Phyrst Phamly, Valerie was finally “in a band.”
After a semester with the Phyrst Phamly, Valerie joined a top-40 band, The Starlites, where she began covering artists such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey – all the really BIG voices. Emulating both male and female major recording artists and their respective styles came naturally to Valerie. It was not long before her voice developed a belt and range to rival Celine Dion. With the busy performance schedule of The Starlites, at 6 nights a week and four hours per show, Valerie became what NY Times writer Phil Sweetland dubbed a “powerhouse voice.”
Discovered by producer Art Ward, Valerie brought her voice to Nashville in 2001 to record her debut CD, entitled It’s Good To Be Loved. Reviewers began comparing Valerie’s vocal talent to those of Martina McBride, Tanya Tucker, Leann Rimes and Reba McEntire, only with more range and versatility.
Valerie is currently performing in support of her Better Days album with her own band in Nashville, and is booking gigs from PA to TN. She is also cultivating her career as a songwriter to include some self-penned tunes on her next CD.
